The primary objective of Sapporo Dental College and Hospital (SDCH) is to promote the level of dental education and heath care in Bangladesh by increasing the number of well trained oral health professionals in the country. At present the number of graduate dentists in for population of over 150 million, the dentist patient ratio being one of the lowest in the world. The past few decades have witnessed tremendous development worldwide in the field of oral health in general and in various disciplines of

dentistry in particular. Unfortunately, Bangladesh could not benefit from these developments mainly due to inadequate planning and misdistribution of resources.

The initiative to set up Sapporo Dental College and Hospital was taken in 1993 by a group of dental graduates with a view to develop oral health-care facilities in Bangladesh in line with global standards of scientific and technological development and proficiency achieved in this field.
